The city of Garland spans across nearly 60 square miles and is within the top 100 most populated cities in the United States. In the state of Texas, Garland is named the 12th most populous city, with current population estimates listing Garland at nearly 240,000 residents. Though Garland is a booming city today, the city started out with humble pioneer beginnings. Settlers began arriving at what we now know as Garland in the middle of the 19th century. Named after the U.S. Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland, the city was incorporated in 1891. By the turn of the century, the small community of Garland still had a population of under 1,000 residents.
